Dear Friends and Supporters:
The Moving Harrison Forward team is fortunate to have gotten to know countless Harrison residents. In the course of campaigning, we have spoken with a diverse cross-section of people with incredible talents and a wide range of interests. Whether they are our friends, supporters or neither is secondary – we appreciate everyone. Because it is the people of Harrison, with their passion and commitment, that make this town special.
You may be interested in learning more about each member of the Moving Harrison Forward team. We are happy to provide answers to several personal questions and hope you find them interesting. First up is Adam Weiner, candidate for town board.
What do you love about Harrison?
Adam Weiner: We absolutely love our neighborhood. I don’t think we could have dreamed of a better place to raise our children. Some of our kids’ best friends live here, and they hop on their bikes or run across the street to play together all the time. Our neighborhood gets together every 4th of July and Halloween, with a few block parties in between. We love having the Purchase Community House and the Purchase Free Library nearby and the staff there knows our family by name. It’s quiet and peaceful here, yet we’re less than five minutes away from the Silver Lake community, where we love to hang out and eat at some of the restaurants.
What made you decide to run for office?
AW: I love our town, but our local government feels stuck in the past and I often found myself thinking of ways that I could improve it – from improving our town’s communication to new bike lanes. I also think our board should be representative of all the residents it serves, including the “tucked away” Purchase community and the working parents. Rather than waiting around for change to happen, I decided to do something about it!
What’s your favorite thing to do in town?
AW: I love to run, and my favorite spot is the loop around Purchase college. It’s a perfect 3 miles and I feel like I’m running at a park. I also like taking my kids there to ride our bikes, sometimes going up behind the airport to watch the planes take off.
Where’s your favorite place to eat?
AW: There are so many good places in town, but we are partial to the restaurants in West Harrison and Purchase. We are big fans of the Silver Lake Café & Grill and Silver Lake Pizza, for quick dinners. We love the subs from Pilone’s, which has the best deli meats. For a nice dinner out, we like tredici North and in downtown Harrison, Hajime has the best sushi around!
What did you do during the pandemic?
AW: Just like everyone, we were shocked by the suddenness of how quickly everything was shut down. The kids were home from school, and after commuting to the city five days a week for the last 12 years, I loved being able to spend more time with them. We did a lot of puzzles, cooking and baking, and projects around the house. Also, I felt so fortunate that I was able to help the State with their contact tracing initiative. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but also one of the most rewarding.
What is one thing not everyone knows about you?
AW: I am the 2017 Westchester Wing Eating Champion! I had never before been in any sort of eating contest, but I love chicken wings, and at the very first Westchester WingFest, on a whim I decided to enter. I ate 16 wings in two minutes!
